[Το κείμενο διατίθεται μόνο στα Αγγλικά] GENERATE! deals with current trends in art that are determined by the interdisciplinary use of electronic media or digital technologies. GENERATE! is interested in the mutual relations between art, science and technology against their socio-political background. Special attention is given to conceptual works that are dedicated to the reflection on generative processes of development, their conditions and respective algorithmically controlled outputs.

GENERATE! as an overarching programmatic title implies both artistic-technical processes of development and the individual question of the possibilities of becoming creatively active oneself. The aim is to create a creative and...

GENERATE! as an overarching programmatic title implies both artistic-technical processes of development and the individual question of the possibilities of becoming creatively active oneself. The aim is to create a creative and critical discourse framework on the aesthetic, socio-political and economic conditions and effects of media and information technologies of the 21st century. GENERATE! thus seeks to explore and shape ways and forms of aesthetic practice that promote and facilitate a critical and self-determined participation in these developments.

GENERATE! Festival for Electronic Arts takes place for the fifth time after the four festivals of the previous years and following the light and video art festival series 2010 — 2014 as well as several media art festivals, each under changing conditions at different venues and with different cooperation partners.

Interrupting the biennial rhythm of a small and a large festival edition, the fifth GENERATE! Festival presents itself for the second time in a row and a total of three times as a small generate!_lab in experimental live format, which is mainly dedicated to a performance and workshop programme without a large exhibition section. The festival and the organizing Kunstverein still have no new central location available after the changeful events around their actual exhibition space Shedhalle.
