Frgments
[Το κείμενο διατίθεται μόνο στα Αγγλικά] This is his most comprehensive project. This is also the first time he’s using video as a raw material.

This piece was inspired by cut-up concept/technique, created by Brion Gysin, which the boundaries were pushed by William S. Burroughs and also by Tristan Tzara with his folding techniques.

FRGMENTS refreshes all these dadaist concepts into a maelstrom of digital post-modern audiovisual matter.

FRGMENTS is both an audiovisual live performance and an autonomous installation showing the permanent disruption of a continuous sound & visual flow.

FRGMENTS is a real-time based coded system that displays pre-shooted video footage and then, reassemble them, resort them, recut them time-wise (scrambled playing order, unexpected time loops) and space-wise (fragmentation of the image matrix itself, unexpected collage of part of the videos). It runs a specific generative narration which plays following different contexts, sometimes being completely autonomous (installation version), sometimes somehow controlled (live performance version). It emits and generates sound, some parts that have been partially written using a specific set of rules and algorithms, playing with metric, bars, time and loop concepts.

VIDEO
FRGMENTS video is generated in real-time by the program running and popping out a 4K texture.
1080p is the definition required for the video projector.
Picture should be at least 7m base (considering 16/9, the minimum size of the picture is: 7m x 4m)
The whole screen should be covered by the picture.
The video signals is transmitted by HDMI from the artist/performer’s computer directly.
AUDIO PART
FRGMENTS live performance requires a stereo sound-system with specific handling for low- frequencies.
The audio signal comes from 2 jacks output from the artist’s RME Fireface UC sound interface.
DI box can be required depending on the setup.
Other requirements & infos
The FRGMENTS live performance duration is about 35 / 40 minutes.
The sound and visuals check required at least 30 minutes.
- 1table(at least 2 m wide x 1 m depth x1,2 m height) with black mate fabric on it cover ingtable+ table legs until the floor,
- 5 power plugs availabl eunder the table,
- spacehastobeasdarkaspossibleandalladditionallightsmustbeswitchedoffexceptasmall
light lighting up the artist/performer itself.
- sound & visual checks requires 1 hour with video &sound technician soft he venue,
- 5 minutes before the live performance, screen has to be black & no sound, then the artist can come on stage and start
- officialtexts&website:http://julienbayle.net/frgments
The table has to be put in front of the screen and no shadow casted on the screen is required. (check the schematics below).
